Text or Graphic Logo?

Recently designed logo for US-based photographer. Note the subtle "JP" embedded in the image.

We do all sorts of branding work here at Beach Websites. Of course Logos are the big one; the trend has been for simple text logos in the last few years. The benefits of this is that you can have it as text or an image so google can find it easily. Its also clean and sharp, and allow instant recognition and message clarity.

These are also known as wordmarks. As the name suggests, these logos have got the company’s name in them, which communicates the brand instantly to customers. They can be printed in different formats, shapes, colours and sizes. Some examples include CNN, FedEx, IBM, Disney, NASA and DELL.

A graphic logo involves a graphic symbol or icon. They offer a unique style to the business and catch the attention of the customers. Although there can be a lot of experimentation done with these types of logo, some of the most successful companies use simple designs to create a strong brand image. One of the most famous examples of the Graphic logo is the world-renowned swoosh symbol used by Nike. It is not complex at all and manages to catch the attention of the customers no matter where they are. They can give a lasting impression and trigger curiosity in customers.

Which is better for you?

If you are trying to sell your products or services without any branding, you will not be successful in the long run. Your idea can also be copied easily by someone else.

There are no real rules; many designer will push creative brands including clothing and other products to the graphic logo and more professional organisations to a text logo.

You don't need to follow this; as long as you have something unique that suits you and your business either is fine.

No matter what decision you make, you should not move away from the original purpose. If your basic idea and the logo design contradict each other, your business will not get recognized anywhere.

Here are a few logos we've created for clients recently.
